Eden Hazard has informed the top brass of Chelsea that he will only sign a contract extension with them if they qualify for the Champions league next term, per reports.
Hazard had a barnstorming outing at the World Cup in Russia but he made the headlines of several media outlets for wanting a move away from Stamford Bridge, with Barcelona and Real Madrid thought to be lurking around for his signature.
The Belgian playmaker has two more years left on his current contract with the Blues but he has stalled over signing a new deal with them, fueling speculation that he wants to call time on his spell.
Nonetheless, Hazard has pledged his commitment to Chelsea: “For the moment, I am happy,” said Hazard. “I have two more years of contract and we will see what will happen.
“Leave this year? I will not leave. I’m fine here, we’ll see what happens in a year or two.”
And now, it is claimed that the Blues have offered a £300,000-a-week on a five-year deal to the star but there so much cloud of uncertainty as to whether he would accept the deal.
The Champions league title has eluded Hazard since he joined Chelsea and he has set his sight on the coveted laurel. There is no hope of glory for Chelsea in the Champions league as they failed to qualify for the competition this term.
The Sun claims Hazard will only consider signing a new deal with Chelsea if they make it to the Champions league next term.
Chelsea have started life in the Premier league under Sarri in a grand style with two wins in two and they will be hoping to maintain the same form when they play Newcastle this weekend.
