Jose Mourinho's search for a forward continues.
The Manchester United manager admitted that he hopes to sign two more players before the transfer window closes but accepts that it may be difficult.
"One thing is what I would like," Mourinho told ESPN. "Another thing is what is going to happen."
Asked directly how many new signings he would like, Mourinho said: "I would get two more players."
The Red Devils are expected to sign a centre-back before the August 9 deadline, with Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire top of Mourinho's shortlist.
With Anthony Martial potentially leaving the club, the Portuguese coach is also looking to bring in a new attacker.
Mourinho is fond of Chelsea's Willian and Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic but both look unlikely to join this summer.
UNEXPECTED WILLIAN ALTERNATIVE
Inter reportedly want £80m to sell Perisic after his impressive World Cup while Chelsea have rejected numerous bids from Barcelona for Willian.
According to The Independent, Mourinho is "desperate to bring in a winger" and has identified Ante Rebic as a possible alternative to Willlian.
The 24-year-old Croatian winger has spent the last two seasons on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt from Fiorentina.
Mourinho is reportedly "determined to bring in the type of wide player he feels is essential to his system" - and Rebic seemingly fits the bill.
Eintracht Frankfurt exercised their option to purchase Rebić permanently for €2m at the conclusion of the 2017/18 season.
Mourinho wanted to sign Perisic last summer but the club reportedly baulked at Inter Milan's £52m valuation.
Now, he is looking at alternatives.
According to The Independent, Man United are still open to signing Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale.
However, following the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus, it is deemed unlikely that he'll be allowed to leave.
Mourinho's side are currently preparing for the 2018/19 season in the USA.
They've drawn each of their two pre-season fixtures thus far, and are set to face AC Milan, Liverpool and Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup.
Some of their World Cup stars are yet to return and Mourinho's in a race to get his team ready for their opening Premier League fixture against Leicester City on August 10.
